The Arts and Sciences Student Council serves as the voice of the undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences. As the liaison between the students and the faculty, the Council’s primary goal is to foster an atmosphere of learning that places students first. Through student programming, interaction with administration and faculty, and the promotion of the College’s student organizations, the Council strives to enrich the experience of Arts and Sciences students. The Council also stresses service to the University and to the surrounding community.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have completed 12 hours at OSU
  • Must be a full-time student in the College of Arts & Sciences
  • Must have and maintain an overall grade point average of 3.00
  • Must be able to attend meetings which are every other Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
  • Application closes Friday, January 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.

Three Minute Thesis

The College of Arts and Sciences Student Council hosts an annual Three Minute Thesis Competition for undergraduates. This year it will be held on Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre. Students will have three minutes to present their research using a single slide and have the chance to win scholarships.

  • Students must sign up by March 6 by 11:59 p.m. 
  • Chosen participants will be notified by Wednesday, March 11th
  • Optional rehearsal for participants will be held in the Student Union Theatre on Monday, March 23rd at 6 p.m.

Awards

All awardees are selected by the Arts and Sciences Student Council and are honored at the CAS Awards Banquet.

Top Ten Senior

Ten students are chosen in the spring semester through an application and interview process. The applications are graded based on academics and overall involvement in the College and on campus. After narrowing down applicants, students and faculty conduct interviews to select the Top Ten Seniors.

Outstanding Junior Award

This award recognizes five outstanding juniors in the areas of academics and University involvement. Students are chosen in the spring semester through an application and interview process.

Outstanding Sophomore Award

This award recognizes five outstanding sophomores in the areas of academics and University involvement. Students are chosen in the spring semester through an application and interview process.

Outstanding Freshmen Award

This award recognizes five outstanding freshmen in the areas of academics and University involvement. Students are chosen in the spring semester through an application and interview process.

Outstanding Club Award

One club within the College is honored with this award each year. Each club is asked to submit an application in the spring including the purpose of the organization and a list of activities they host throughout the year. In addition to the application, clubs may also submit published articles, fliers and/or newsletters.

Outstanding Club Advisor Award

The College of Arts and Sciences Student Council invites members of CAS clubs to submit Club Advisor nominations for this award each spring. The students are encouraged to provide letters of support and describe why their Advisor deserves to be recognized. The review of applicants and the selection of the CAS Outstanding Club Advisor is conducted by the Arts and Sciences Student Council.

CAS Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award

The College of Arts and Sciences invites nominations for this award each spring. The nominees are then contacted and asked to submit additional materials that make up a complete application for the award. The review of applicants and the selection of the CAS Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award is conducted by the Arts and Sciences Student Council.

CAS Distinguished Teaching Award

The College of Arts and Sciences invites nominations for this award each spring. The nominees are then contacted and asked to submit additional materials that make up a complete application for the award.
