An ongoing research collaboration between Oklahoma State University and Japanese scientists has resulted in the publication of a study in an internationally respected chemistry journal that confirms for the first time theories about a novel spectroscopic technique to measure molecular changes in a protein. The paper, co-written by faculty at OSU and Saga University in Japan, may lead to increased understanding of the structure of proteins and other biomolecules.
The Oklahoma State University College of Artsand Sciences announced its faculty and staff award winners at its annual Fall Convocation, held in the Wes Watkins Center Exhibition Hall. Eight members of the CAS faculty and staff were honored at the event while many others received service pins.
Oklahoma State University psychology professor Dr. Larry Mullins and his colleagues are developing an app to aid parents of children with cancer or other chronic diseases. Mullins, who serves as the Associate Dean for Research for the College of Arts and Sciences at OSU, landed a $3 million National Institute of Health (NIH) grant last year to take on the project with former OSU student and current associate professor of psychology at the Universty of Cincinnati, Dr. Ahna L. Pai.
Oklahoma State University’s Charles Abramson has been on the move this year. The psychology professor’s research has taken him to Brazil, Russia, Chile, Colombia and back to Stillwater.
Abramson, Regents Professor and Boger Professor of International Studies, began 2015 with a month long trip to Brazil. The purpose of the trip was to lay the ground work for a course on International Environmental Sociology, which will be offered by the Sociology Department for two months during the summer of 2016. The course will be taught by Professors Beth Caniglia, Duane Gill and Tammy Mix.
The Oklahoma State University Department of Integrative Biology recently received a $422,000 National Science Foundation grant to use toward renovations for the department’s Collection of Vertebrates (COV) natural history museum.
In 2010, the department updated the facilities housing the COV’s mammal specimens. With this latest grant, it can now update the facilities housing the fish, amphibian and reptile specimens.
