Garcia named an OSU Outstanding Senior

Samuel Alvarado Garcia, a biology and psychology major from Enid, Oklahoma, has been selected as an Oklahoma State University 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior by the OSU Alumni Association.

The Outstanding Seniors award recognizes seniors who show excellence through academic achievement; campus and community involvement; academic, athletic or extracurricular honors or awards; scholarships and work ethic during their time at OSU.

While at OSU, Garcia founded Cru Destino and he served as a College of Arts and Sciences Student Ambassador and the community service chair for Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity. He was also a member of the Hispanic Student Association and named Mr. Hispanic/Latino OSU.

His community involvement includes volunteering at the Iron Gate Soup Kitchen, the OSU Office of Student Orientation for Welcome Week, serving as an OU/TU School of Community Medicine MASH Summer Camp Leader and as a translator/interpreter at both the Open Arms Clinic and Oklahoma Missions of Mercy.

Garcia was also honored as a Wentz Research Scholar and an OSU Student Employee of the Year nominee. He was named the Office of First Year Success Student Ambassador of the Semester in Fall 2018, and he was a member of the Order of Omega Honor Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

“OSU has driven me to dream big and know that anything is possible when you set your mind to it,” Garcia said.

After graduation, Garcia plans to join the workforce and gain experience in the health sciences field with the goal of applying to medical school.

Garcia is one of 16 students selected for the 2019-2020 Outstanding Senior award. The OSU Alumni Association Student Awards and Selection Committee selected the 16 winners after meeting with the 41 Seniors of Significance selected in the fall of 2019 and reviewing their applications.
